😏「候補(者)の数を絞る」という業務はあると思います。そのようなときに使える構文です。
下記のようにdownが候補者数の前だったり後ろだったり、あるいはなかったり、4つ目のようにtoが無いのもネイティブが使っているのを聞いたことがあります。
〇「narrow down + 数字 + to + 目標の数字」
〇「narrow + 数字 + down to + 目標の数字」
〇「narrow + 数字 + to + 目標の数字」
△「narrow + 数字 + down + 目標の数字」
📖例文
- We need to narrow down the ten candidates to three by tomorrow.「我々は10人の候補を明日までに3人に絞る必要がある」
- After being narrowed down through our selection, the remaining candidates fell short of the number we desired.「我々の選定基準で選別したところ、残った候補者は我々の欲しい人数を下回ってしまいました。」💡narrow downを使わない例文→After sorting through our selection criteria, the remaining candidates fell short of the number we desired.
